Bring The Food Fight Home is committed to eliminating American food insecurity by reinforcing the role of rural America within our food system. This goes beyond “farm to table” and “shop local” movements that produce small ripples in local economies. All American’s need to understand their role in the industrialized machine that feeds us if we are to create meaningful change that leads to a sustainable, equitable, autonomous food system for generations to come.
Over the past fifty years, the number of farms in America has decreased, while the average size of the American farm has grown exponentially. This failure to support small scale, diversified farming has led to absolute reliance on staple crops and overproduction of health-compromising, processed foods that are cheaper and more easily accessed than healthy alternatives.
Bring The Food Fight Home advocates for a reset of the American food system through the following actions:
1.) Reengagement of small, rural American communities that are critical to regional food production and resource distribution.
2.) Relinquishing American dependency on outsourced, off shore commodity foods.
3.) Reimagine regional food systems.
4.) Reinforce fresh food values.
5.) Reconsider the importance of first person farming knowledge, traditionally passed through farm households and disrupted by the collapse of the small farm.
